Years ago I spotted a broken bolt head lying on the garage floor beneath the trunk area of my 9-5. I slid under to see if it happened to come from my car and discovered the bolt head originally belonged to one of the two bolts securing tow hook fitting.
I had never touched this bolt with a wrench, so apparently it was either defective from manufacturing or over torqued and nearly sheared during assembly of the car. I still have the rusty bolt head. I am also glad I have never had the need to install a tow hitch on this car as this is one of the two bolts that need to be removed and reinstalled with this accessory.
