Incidentally, the praises heaped on countries like China and Canada in the past couple years illustrate just how difficult/impossible it is to recognize a bubble while one is living in it. It's just like the praises heaped on Euro until a year ago, on the US in 1999/2006, on Japan in 1990.
Bubbles are much more obvious after they burst. The wizards behind the curtain face the same difficulties; otherwise, they'd long been independently wealthy just by trading the market. Properly timed counter-cyclical trades are enormously profitable. The fact that none of the central-planners for money have proved themselves to be hugely successful traders is proof enough that they are not great market timers . . . yet somehow, the Keynesian theory requires them to time the market to perfection, and bet the well being of a whole society on that.
