The solution is quite simple: letting the individuals (and families) decide what they would like to do with the fruits of their own labor, instead of taxing them away to enrich the various well-off grafters feeding off the government's teats.
I'm very tempted to educate my kids by myself, in some sort of cooperative with like-minded parents. I don't even begrudge public school teachers. A far more blatant grater in the public school system is actually the construction-banking cartel: many relatively well-off towns have in the past few years' boom been persuaded to building new high school buildings on the order of $100mil apiece! That money, with interest in the years to come, is enough to pay 100 teachers' entire teaching careers! How did those bills ever get passed in the towns? why? by federal or state "matching funds," so that the town folks felt like they were somehow on the take . . . when in reality it's just a game of mutual predation between towns, with the construction companies and banks looting all the towns blind.
