Once it's fully pre heated, sear both sides, then turn off the center burner (or down to very low), turn down the other two burners to medium, and finish cooking, this will prevent some of the flare up.
Make sure the flavorizer bars (v shape metal above burners) are free from grease build up and not rusted through, although I'm pretty sure that model has stainless steel bars.
I rarely get flare up unless it's really greasy burgers.
PS, Don't leave your tank sitting on the wood deck, hang it on the grill or it will leave a rust ring in the wood.
