I don't mean this to be a knock on MS, but there failings had little to do with Apple and more to do with the way the OS is constructed. Kind of like a house of cards. I have to admit that with Win XP and Win 7, I haven't experienced any "blue screens of death" as with previous versions, Win 3.1, 95 etc.
I'm sure others will chime in, but no, can't lay that at Apple's door.
As far as trendy, Apple is unique. I think OS depends on what you're doing. From your earlier post, Win 7 will be ok. My son has a Win 8 laptop, but I don't particularly like it (personal opinion).
BTW, have you thought of a laptop?
