Actually, it comes quite naturally, even for us right-handed people.
I've rented in Oz and the UK and made one faux pas: entering a main highway from a secondary one and failing to take the correct lane on entering.
Never made the same mistake again. Used the round-abouts and various other uniquely British roadway systems surprisingly easily. It's a gas.
Most fun/challenge driving I ever had was renting a Simca on the Cote d' Azur where some large proportion of drivers drive like maniacs. It's actually quite close to the Quebec, Canada experience if you've ever gone there.
The main thoroughfares are one thing. The hills work in tiny villages was quite another. It is not unusual for a stranger to the area to go up a street and find eventually in the smallest of villages that tires on both sides of the car are almost touching the sidewalk.
My wife would not let me rent in Rome :( We were chauferred :) That too was a real gas.
