Relocating across national borders is a very costly process both in financial terms and emotional terms. Yet, many highly skilled and hard working Canadians have been opting to emigrate to the US. The shortage of doctors due to emigration is getting so critical that Canadians patients who can afford it are seeking medicine south of the border despite theoretical availability of free medicare in Canada. A quarter century ago, the US dollar and Canadian dollar were in near-parity, today the loonie is barely more than half a buck. These are not miniscule changes, espeically considering that Canadians are a hardworking lot; on average, they spend less time in front of the TV, and work longer hours, and less wasteful in their habbits compared to their neighbors south. Yet, their well being has deteriorated significant compared to their cousins south of the border. Why? the government of Canada has failed them. I'm not sure what you mean by "low blow." I have the utmost compassion for the long-suffering Canadian people.
Why are those points relevent? Because I respect people's choices; those hard choices made with their own feet and their own wallets; not some artificial ranking system made up by camel-designing committees for the sake of self-perpetuation. If a statisticly significant population goes through the trouble of uprooting themselves from the land of their own forefathers and connections to a land of strangers where they can not even vote for half a dozen years in order to give themselves and their offsprings a better future, those people's determination regarding "sustainability" are certainly much more noteworthy than some committee members on the government dole.
WEF is just a worthless self-important talkshop designed to burnish the images of cumbersome global quasi-governmental institutions.
