I just don't like people who practice tree hugging as career and specialize in talking the gullible out of their choicest lambs. It's a distasteful as charity chieftains drawing half million dollar salaries for themselves. Fundamentally, when economy tanks, that's when the environment really suffers: witness the horrendous environmental problems in former communist bloc; witness how when the economies went awry in Congo/Zair and Afghanistan, it's the zoo animals and animals on purported reservations that suffered the most. When people are prosperous and content with their lives, they will take the extra steps to improve their environment; conversely, no government meddling can stop a starving population from exploiting environment in the least efficient manner (like "bush meat"). Therefore, economy prosperity is the ticket to real environmental sustainability.
