The T5 will avoid knock with ignition timing and mixture, and only drops boost as a last resort. Many have used MBC's and MBC+A's on the T5 and there really is no evidence of any problems. The T5 is very solid at knock avoidance without dropping boost. The T5 ECU & DIC's plug gap sensing still detect conditions that lead to knocking. BCPR7ES plugs at larger gaps (.039 - .041) do allow the ECU to develop more power. Some have hacked the MAP sensor and increased boost further, and further yet with modified FPRs.
The T5 also reacts well to water/alcohol injection.
