I was Poly Sci myself. It is incredible to me that what I call "business ethics" has completely torn down the morality in this country, and yet the Chamber of Commerce types want to blame virtually anything else. We may very well have to turn to lawyers and the rule of law, as they have in this farce of an election, to establish a sense of fairness and justice. How ironic is that! Turning to lawyers to take back our democracy!
Having to trust them, and eventually the hated politicians to paraphrase Justice Douglas, keep the government off the backs of the people. Increasingly, that "government" is the corporation. People feel helpless because they have created a monster that they cannot control. This yutz that I had the misfortune to trust will get away with his greedy game as long as everyone out there thinks that "business ethics" is fine. The legal system has become unimportant because of the time and expense that the ordinary citizen must expend to get satisfaction. So here is the task for your generation entering law school--make the system accessable and relevant to the average citizen, and put fundamental fairness at the top of the legal agenda so that people can have hope.
