OT: Capacitors for Audio Systems?

I finally decided on a sub amp, and have installed a JBL 1200.1 to drive my Focal 10" sub. Very nice btw, and takes the system to a whole new plateau. This augments my Clarion 9575rz/Phoenix Gold QX4150 Focal 3-way components. The PG can put 150 watts into the 3-ways, and the JBL will do 1200 watts as configured into the 2 ohm wired sub. I've heard it mentioned that when one is running a lot of wattage that a 1 farad cap should be installed before the amps to alleviate the load on the alternator. Anyone have experience with doing this as to the pros and cons, good brands of caps, and tips for installation?
Thanks,
Bill
