Got your attention? In the 80's, that was the size of a Formula 1 turbo engine. The 1500HP was the estimated power output in qualifying trim with nitromethane fuel. Estimated life of the engine was about 15 minutes or 10 laps which ever came first. There are many, many factors that affect engine output. For any car, street, race or rally, you have to achieve the best compromise. Too much power as for a race and fuel consumption goes up and you need too many pit stops. Too much horsepower in a rally car may mean not enough torque at low end for the gearing in the transmission.
One more thing, new EVO's are available somehow. There will be several at Cherokee Trails rally in two weeks. (cherokeetrailsrally.com) And one old Saab.
