I've been pulled over one too many times for loud exhaust on my sonett. It had the mss Y-pipe with the long resonator and under the left rear side I added a small resonator which took the edge off the sound (noise still gives me a headache on long drives though).
I want to make the exhaust quieter. I'm not too worried about performance because the cars never going to be that fast. So I cut up the exhaust and found the resonator had rotted inside. Lots of loose metal chunks in there. It had been hanging too low so I loosened up the manifold nuts and retightened them while the Y-pipe was jacked up properly. That solved to clearance problem, but I am having trouble finding a muffler that will fit under the body of the car. Any suggestions?
I plan on keeping the single pipe system. I guess my last resort would be to find a replacement flattened resonator (if still available) and throw an inline muffler inside the rear wheelwell. My 2nd to last option is to buy 2 or 3 small inline tractor mufflers and string 'em together. These are small enough to allow decent ground clearance but does anyone know if this would dampen the sound more than that loong MSS resonator?
