I have done such stuff on a Saab 96. Worked out okay, exhaust survived. But I was young and had no clue. :-D
I wouldn't recommend it. If at all, go slow on raising it and check whats happening in the suroundings.
Alternative would be to put a hydraulik jack under the engine, but just to raise it so far that the engine mounts have like 0 pressure on them. Then remove the nut that connects them to the engine bracket, remove the engine bracket, those are mounted with 3 screws from the side into the engine block. When the bracket is out of the way, you can remove the engine mounts / cushions and put washer under it.
Or, another idea, use slotted washer, just raise the engine just so much that you can slide the open washer (or a suitable plate with a slot) in between. This way you would not have much stress on the exhaust. I think I would try this one at first.
Cheers,
Erik
