If you're considering the Audi, of course, drive it and see what you think. I've had several Audi/VW products and a similar number of Saabs, and, quite honestly, the Audis have been superior, IMHO. The fit, finish, and quality of the materials used in Audis are truly superb. All of my Audis have been outstandingly reliable and the VERY rare repairs have, generally, been no more expensive than the Saabs' and have been fewer and further in between. If you live in a cold(-ish) climate, Quattro is amazing and WELL worth the extra $1700, or so. It is VASTLY superior to any FWD system regardless of what kind of electronic wizardry is behind it.

I hate to not recommend the Saab as highly, but, the Audis I've owned have really been superb cars and have been more trouble-free and less costly to own in the long run. I own Saabs, mainly, because it's a family tradition. I just bought a '95 900 SE (my 4th Saab) which is the 23rd Saab that our family has owned. The reason I bought it was because it was VERY inexpensive and is in very good condition. But, it has several issues (as any used car will) that will be somewhat expensive to fix. If I would have been able to buy an Audi for a similar price, I would have.

Saab builds a fine car, don't get me wrong, but, take a careful look at the way the cars fits together. Take a look at the materials and plastics used in the interior. Look at how the edges of the underside of the engine hood are finished. Lots of little details of the Audi are just more complete and are finished in a more deliberate and high-quality way.

Best of luck in your search and I hope you enjoy whatever you choose.
