I guess you have misunderstood the meaning of Posted by AdamB [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Umm... didn't I say "no flames, please?", Siegrisd, Wed, 25 May 2005 19:35:31 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
the term "flaming". It's insults and name calling. Neither of which was in my response. It seems you don't want anyone to argue with you and thus term any contrary response as "flaming".
"As for the statistics and reliability ratings, where did you get yours?"
Check JD powers, consumer reports etc.
"BTW, how many Audis have you actually owned."
None. :)
I don't put a lot of value in anecdotal evidence. But I have some anyway if you're interested. I know several people who've not exactly had trouble free Audi ownerships.
"I'll ask the same of Saabs"
My family has owned Saabs almost as long as I can remember.
"I think you've missed part of my point. I used the 'underside of the hood' as an example of the attention to detail that Audi incorporates into their products. I was also comparing apples to apples, i.e. comparing a 2005 9-3 Aero to a 2005 Audi A4, certainly NOT comparing my '95 900 SET to the Audi."
Ok, but I still don't think you're correct. I've seen both cars close up, and whilst the interior has a bit better finish in the Audi, I don't think the difference is anything to talk about. Certainly not a decision making factor in my mind.
"As for AWD. Have you experienced Quattro? The value and capability that it adds to the vehicle is well worth the added cost if living in a wintery climate."
The only benefit AWD provides is increased traction when you're accelerating. It ads NOTHING to the stopping power which is the most important part of snow/ice driving. Actually with 2 cars of the same model with the AWD being the only difference, the AWD car will have WORSE braking and LONGER stopping distances than the other car. Why? Because it's heavier.
"Even the WORST ice I've driven in felt like nearly dry pavement in the Audi Quattros."
Sorry, but that's nonsense. Or you haven't driven on real ice, or you didn't try to start, turn or stop. Even in an AWD with studded wintertires, ice will feel a lot slicker than dry road.
"No traction problems whatsoever."
Until you try to stop or turn.
"FAR superior to any of my Saabs (or any of the other 19 Saabs in my family, for that matter). No need for snow tires."
You couldn't be more wrong. Winter tires are essential no matter what car you drive. They determine how well the car stops and handles. Again, AWD will only make it easier to get going (which I've never had a problem with in a FWD car with winter tires anyway). So basically AWD will make it easier to get into trouble and harder to get out of.
"Lighten up, pal. Drop the insults (I like my old clunker regardless of what you may 'arguably' think), allow people to have their own opinion and show a little respect. After all, that's what was solicited here."
It seems like you're the one who needs to "lighten up". I've provided no insults. I don't think you'll find anyone who won't agree that the first NG900's wheren't exactly the pinnacle of Saab engineering. I don't see how I'm being disrespectful just because I don't agree with you?
