Alrighty, I'll weigh in...
I've had my 2006 9-3 Aero for about 3 weeks now. Aside from the disappointing gas mileage, I love the car. I previously had a '95 900S and a '99 9-3 Coupe. My Dad also had a late model Viggen coupe that I drove. I loved the 4 cylinders...even my non-turbo 2.3 liter, but this V-6 is wonderful. I suspect that most people who post have not gotten above 1200 miles with their new Aeros and have not really thottled the car. I disobeyed the rule once and I can tell you that this car is smooth and VERY FAST.
However, IMO, this intro of a solid V-6 is key. The previous 900 V-6 was a problem child...this motor is the real deal. So what if the engine is used on a Caddy?
This Aero finally offers the mainstream public an engine and a chassis that is competitive with Acura, Audi, M-B, and even BMW. The 4 cylinders are great, but non-Saabers associate little motors with "cheap." Yes, all Saabs come packed with content, but I still think that having only a 4-cylinder hurts sales. With the V-6, people who don't car about Saab quirkiness can get the content and a big motor to boot. Try getting this much value in a BMW for $32k...you'll be lucky to get 3-series with a sunroof or headlights that you don't need to light with a match (seriously, I think that a comparably equipped 3 would be WELL over $40k). Keep offering the 4 as a great value and as a hell of an alternative if gas gets even uglier.
Oh yeah...I'd love to some more ads from Saab on the V-6. I would bet that people don't even know about it. Let's be happy about this car...it's much better than having a 3.9 liter Pontiac G6 or a Malibu SS motor and only an automatic. The new V-6 is Saab-like...relatively small displacement and gobs of power.
Let the arguments continue!!!
