Lower octane fuel burns faster than higher octane fuels. If your engine requires low octane fuel and you use high octane fuel, you are wasteing your cash. So, to have the same power out of your engine at any given throttle angle or load with higher octane fuel, the injectors are held open longer to get the same "bang" as you had with the lower octane fuel. This results in higher fuel consumption. Your cod air kit should only make a difference at wide open throttle when the ECM goes into "open loop". At normal loads however, the ecm is in "closed loop" and automatically corrects for the extra air entering the engine.
