I have owned 3 Saabs and have had great luck with all of them in my opinion. They have all had "problems" but what car doesn't.
I had a 96 900 that gave me no major problems, serpintine belt broke and some pulley broke as a result but it had like 60K on it. Sold it to upgrade to the 9-3.
My 01 9-3 had a bad turbo, and the DI died..problems yes, but they were fixed quickly under warrenty in both instances. Sold it still under warrenty to move up to 9-5 SW.
Current 04 9-5 with 15k...no problems whatsoever so far (knock on wood).
I loved all three cars, if I could I would by my 9-3 back.
As far as why you get "horro stories" on this site here is my 2 cents:
To most people a car is a way to get to point A to point B, in my opinion to the people on this board a Saab means something else to them. I think that is why you see the "horror stories", you don't get your average person posting about how much they love their car, you get some insane people(myself included) asking how to get rid of a rattle only they hear, etc... I think there are some very knowlegable people on this board who say it like it is, they give pro's and cons about owning a Saab, in my experiance the Pro's have definitly outweighed the Con's.
Looking forward to getting into my next saab whenever that will be...
