DIC Gloomers.... Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] (#81) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mike Lynch) on Mon, 8 Aug 2005 13:20:35 In Reply to: DI cassette, Dave Walsh, Sat, 6 Aug 2005 15:54:20 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Quote from the scrolling to the very, very bottom of this page. "This is a problem solving forum for over 250,000 Saab owners, so expect to see problems discussed here even though our cars are generally very reliable."
Additionally as 9-5s being overall very, very reliable, an issue, such as DIC failure stands out.
So I poke some fun at all the naysayers and I call 'em DIC Gloomers. I do recognize, believe it or not regular BB readers, that DIC issues are a major deal for Saab owners.
Other cars with direct ignition don't put it in a cassette so that when a coil fails, a very common problem for all modern cars with high output coils mounted on or near the hot engine, the car can still be driven somewhat instead of outright killing the car. Saab has done this with the new 9-3SS.
I poke fun at the DIC Gloomers for spending $300-400 to have a spare DIC in the car, as it easy to replace by DIY folks, but I do understand their logic of why not, I've got the money and it's worth it to me, and then I'll be invincable......
Perhaps the activists who are hounding the NHSTA will indeed accomplish their goal to the benefit of all Saab owners.
