For the record, I am a SAAB fanatic and I will drive a SAAB as long as they make them. With that said, this post is more of a 'share your anguish with those that empathize' than anything. So here goes:
I have a 2003 Aero, with all options, which means comfort, executive package, etc. For those aware, '03 was the year that things like the compass in the rear view, and outside dimming mirros was available. In year '04, the decontenting started, so theoretically 2003 was the year with the most available options of all the 9-5's thus far, including the '05.

With that said, nybody looked at the '06 Maxima? I'm not getting one nor am I suggesting anyone else here get one, but consider the following available Maxima specs:

265 hp
255 lbs-ft torque
6-spd close ratio manual transmission
18" alloys
Bi-Xenons*
Power heated, auto-dimming, and folding outside mirrors(also dual tilt-down)
aluminum hood and trunk
bluetooth
front windows auto up/down, rear windows, one touch auto up/down
remote rear windows down
speed sensing wipers*
compass in rear view(rear view mirror dims as well)*
power rear sunshade(front and rear controls)
overhead sunglass storage (minimal I know but very useful)
power lumbar for driver's seat
heated seats front and rear(two setting for each and rear are independent)
heated steering wheel
aluminum door sill plates
in-dash 6 disc changer

*SAAB has these but they are worth mentioning

I didn't even list everything! Put it this way, if the 9-5 has it as an option, then the maxima has it and then some. This is very disheartening to me, especially since we are supposed to be comparing a european luxury/performance sedan to a japanese luxury/performance??? sedan. Mind you, THIS IS NISSAN, NOT INFINITI. Take a look at the INFINITI, even the G35 sedan, and the margin widens even further. No wonder that SAAB can't get market share when they can't keep up with the japanese guys lower brand in performance, handling, or amenities. Not to mention the Euro guys laughing in our face. I configured an every-option Maxima online and it still came in at just under $34K! Are you kidding?! If I wasn't married to SAAB, why in my right mind would I pay $6000+ MORE for a SAAB with less HP and more amenities? Sure SAAB's are unique and rare, but SAAB is making it tough for me to keep up the arguement with cars like this on the road.

I love my 9-5, but this '06 redesign/facelift to stretch out until '08 is almost a slap in the face to us SAAB guys. SAAB needs to really rethink this thing, as I'm sure they've been doing, by 2008 they will have lost so many of us that it might not matter how great the new 9-5 replacement is.

Sorry for the rant - I get passionate about these SAABs. Cheers.
