Quite true...Nissan also gets a pass on the aforementioned huge drop in reliability. But such is what happens when you shift from engineering to marketing and gadgets. Nissan, like VW, wants to go 'luxury'. Still dunno where that leaves their respective 'luxury' lines.
MB put the same cut on the engineering a few years back and eventually started toning the gadgetry down a bit on the lower models when it was a loss to constantly fix the poorly-build zoot under warranty.
And, am I way off in remembering a close-ratio stick is what you get when your engine's sweet spot falls in an indescribably small band? Sounds good on paper, tho...
