Like most of you, I'm a long time Saab driver. I've owned C900 turbos and a 900S, a 99EMS, 1991 9000 turbo, a 1995 9000 Aero (my favorite of all Saabs I've owned), a 1996 9000cs, and now a 2000 9-5SE wagon and a 2000 Audi A6 4.2. My wife drives the 9-5 (mostly) and I drive the Audi (mostly). Although there are things about the Saab I really like it is not in the same category as the Audi. Both cars have 140k miles on them and the Audi feels like it has 50k and the Saab feels like it has 140k. The fit and finish of the Audi interior is not only more luxurious than the Saab but the materials are of much higher quality. The quatro system along with the smooth and incredibly powerful 8cyl 4.2l engine really do take the car out of the same category as the 9-5 and so it probably isn't exactly fair to compare them. Having said this, we are trading in the 2000 9-5 for a 2004 9-5Arc Wagon and I'm hoping all the things I don't like about our current 9-5SE will dissapear with the 04Arc and the 4 cylinder turbo charged engine I fell in love with a long time ago. I'm excited to get back to the true Saab Turbo before I give up on (new) Saabs altogether. Our 9-5SE has been costly to maintain (more so than the Audi) and it has had a few annoying phantom problems, currently it won't start when warm after a lot of stop and go and the dealer can't tell me why, and it smokes quite a bit on cold starts.
