Before we bought our 02 9-5 Linear, we drove Volvo S-60's and S-80's. They were nice cars and I think on about a par with the 9-5, except for all their emphasis on safety, they overlook visibility for the driver. You can't see out the right rear quarter for beans. I know, they want you to use the side mirror, but that doesn't help much to check for someone coming from the second lane over on the right heading for the same space in the lane between. They also lacked space in the footwell area. And we got the Saab for quite a bit less money than either Volvo. On the + side, they seemed a little quieter than the 9-5, but when we changed to Toyo tires, the Saab became quite a bit quieter than with the Michelins, evening up the score. Lastly, the Volvo seats are even more comfy for me that the Saab's.
I wish I could drive a BMW, but I insist on front wheel drive, so they aren't on my list. Now if I lived in California...
