I got a 9-5 Aero used from a guy in April with about 37k miles and CPO 'til 12/31/2009. I'm in sales, and I put a pile of miles on the car. I got a car I'd like for the job with my car allowance.

So far, it's been pretty good. Previous owner had the "45k" service done early, and I had an oil change at 40k at the dealer. I blew out the coolant bypass valve about 2 weeks ago, and the dealer fixed it under warranty. It's going in for 45k oil change this week.

Today I was heading to work and all of a sudden the car started pulling hard to the left. I exited and found a gas station. I have a little compressor that plugs into the cigarette lighter, so i tried pumping up the tire. What is usually a hiss was now a whoosh. I turned the wheel and found what you see in the picture below.

Tonight I put on my old Gary Fisher rims (with very old and worn rubber) to get me by 'til later this week. I've got Conti's on the way to a buddy's shop. When I pulled the other front, I found it was also very worn on the inside.

Tires are Dunlop SP Sport 5000 225 45/17 (OEM Size) - last rotated at 35k or 40k? Note: the tires aren't worn this badly all the way around. On the better of the two tires, the not-so-bad side still has a little tread.

Key question - what on earth can cause this? Horrible alignment? rubbing on something? under/over inflation? Tires out of round?

What should I do to prevent this on my fresh Continental's?
