The vehicle weight is grater on the wagons, but so is the GVWR. The springs are different (based upon part numbers) but I am not sure what the actual difference is. I saw a sedan in NYC outside a hotel. It had 4 passengers and a partially full trunk with suitcases. The sedan was sagging a lot as well.
I would be very revealing if I can get the NHTSA to do some actual payload tests. My car could never carry the specified loads because the springs compress too much. Even without the camber issue, the car would bottom and the subframe would bend.
Tires should not feather if the rear suspensions are properly designed. A quick check on a BMW/AUDI doesn't say enough because you don't know how the car is loaded and if the tires are ever rotated. One could grind through the tires on a 9-5 in several thousand miles under certain circumstances.
What size tires are on your 99 and 05? Do either have the sport suspension?
If the car were aligned loaded, the camber would be positive and you would get outside tire edge wear and poor/dangerous handling when unloaded. This happened with the Saturn L after Saturn released its TSB to correct too much negative camber.
