Although my MY99 9-5SW has had the feathering/cupping problem, I cope with it by replacing my rear shocks, and by increasing my rotation to every 5000 miles (8000km); the current set of Ovation National tires (30000 km) was punished by a 2000 km trip, fully loaded, to the Maritimes via Massachusetts; we unloaded, drove around for a week (1000 km), and put another 2000 km on the way back; I detected the beginning of feathering, and rotated the tires today.
There seems to be a distribution of the magnitude of the problem, dealing with all elements of the suspension, and often with the subframe element permanent deformation experienced (IIRC) by Steve. He is right to ask us to contribute to the documentation of the problem. It is the only way to establish the cause or causes.
I have to say though that our wagon handled really well in the mountains and on the road. I am quite pleased that my almost-ten-year-old car feels as tight or better than its MY05 9-5SW Arc brother under such conditions. Nothing like 32 mpg on a long trip to build loyalty.
