Yes, I sent out a sample of engine oil from my dad's BMW after 15,000 miles of use (!) His car had around 50,000 total miles on it at the time.
BMWs have a variable oil change interval, and their synthetic oil usually stays in for 14,000 to 17,000 miles, depending on operating conditions.
BMW uses a Castrol-manufactured (not Syntec) fully synthetic 5W-30 which meets ACEA A3 spec. (Their Motorsport cars [eg, M3] use a Castrol-made fully synthetic 10W-60, which also meets A3)
Anyway, the oil from my dad's car looked downright nasty, but it passed with flying colors. Amazing. I hear some BMW dealers sell this oil for less than $4 a quart... I probably would use this BMW 5W-30 fully synthetic A3-spec oil in my SAAB if Mobil 1 0W-40 were unavailable to me.
