Hi,
Aero plugs are supposed to be gapped at .035" or .036" if using
precious metal plugs. Following is link to Jason's thread.
You should check plugs more often than every 30K miles, especially
if you drive really hard. The drift is supposed to be .001" per 10K
miles. So after 30,000 miles, .036" can become .039"
It is better to gap at lower end of suggested range. Anders confirmed
that Saab now suggests 1mm +.1/-.2. The low range is then .032". You
may use NGK-BCPR6ES (without -11) which come pre-gapped at .8mm. BCPR6ES
is copper plug. TG has told us that copper plugs work just as well as
precious metal. This should allow you to change plugs more often.
Still, this is somewhat worrisome. .039" is within spec, all the more
reason for gapping at low end of suggested range and letting it widen
for at most 15,000 miles and then regapping or changing.
Again, plugs are not THE cause. Heat seems to be the big culprit.
thanks
Jae
