I understand what you mean, when something is offered in one context & addressed in another. But it all goes toward getting folks thinking. My point of view is often adjusted by unexpected insights, opinions & experiences. I know you know what I mean, but sometimes I need to hear it again. (Of course, putting the phrase "oil wars" in the title doesn't help. :) )
What do you mean by "a report on a bulletin from SAAB"? What was the original bulletin, & why is someone reporting on it?
I guess I don't understand your Euro comparison. You're saying every 5W-40 full syn meets A3/B3, but I would expect that over there. My feeling is that Europeans, in general, care more about preserving what they have because their resources (both money & materials) are more important to them than ours are to us. Are any of their 30 wts (dino, semi, or full) A3/B3 rated?
