Saabs are tough on oil

The sludge issue has been reported here before by another Saab tech. Turbo engines in general are tough on oil. Your experience underscores the issue of proper mainentnace with Saab engines.
There was some discussion on here a few weeks ago about the American view of frequent oil changes being mostly marketing while the Euro view was of longer change intervals. I would contend that the longer drain interval Saab specifies in Europe is probably a marketing effort for Saab to be competitive with other, normally aspirated European brands.
I change mine every 5K, which works out to be about every 7 months.
