Hae Jae,
I'm guessing it was OE semi-syn, since my OE oil bottles have a 1996 ACEA spec date rather than a 1998 ACEA spec date (implying it was in OE service prior to March, 1998, when the new '98 spec date could be used for the first time). Also, don't forget we're talking about 45k miles here. Even if M1 15W-50, D1 5W-40 or (insert favorite super-boutique, premium synthetic oil here) were used to start with, if it was never changed then any ol' crap could've been dumped in over that length of time.
