That seems a bit extreme. You may as well say "Don't buy a used car". The auction isn't the problem -especially if you have a chance to look the car over and judge the condition of it. But, regardless, you're taking a chance -and much about life involves taking a chance. My guess is that car sold for less than $15,000. Less than half the cost of a new one. This guy got a lemon -but new car purchasers sometimes get factory lemons too.
What I'm wondering is -why isn't Saab fixing, or replacing the engine under it's 50,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty? I think I read there was only 45K miles on it.
Have they determined beyond any doubt that the problem is due to neglect? If Anders is finding pieces of timing chain tensioner, then maybe something grenaded inside, causing the goop he's finding in the oil.
