Sorry to say, the problem is the manual transmissions. those who like to shift just do not want to believe that ther is a better way to do things, but the fact is that just about all of the modern electronics that control an engine's fuel , ignition, and subsequently control things like traction and skid control, ESP, TCS, ABS, you name it,are predicated on having an automatic transmission in the loop. Iti s a bitter pill to swallow, but the fact is that shifting the gears on your own is like having the very best carbueretor. We are now in a fuel injected world. The newest generations of paddle shifted electro-hydraulic transmissions will eliminate the conventional manual from many manufacturer's lineup since it can work as both a manual or an automatic transmission, there by allowing a car maker to build just ONE model where they now build two. It is also superior to both of the conventional manuals and planetary gearset automatics on the market today. Anyone who has driven a BMW M-3 with the SMG transmission can attest to this. The 9-3X and 9-X both have similar transmissons. The handwriting is on the wall for the manual gearbox and clutch. All of the so called abberatons that you mentioned about seeing the RPM go up, or fail to go down quickly go away with this new design. The engine electronics work in conjunction with the gearbox and electronically match the rpm to the next selected gear, which minuimises clutch wear, and gives you the fastest shift. Why would you want to push a clutch and move a gear lever if you can have the electronics do it for you?
