Sounds like the thing failed in good weather, and close to home. Sounds like the thing was fixed under warranty, sounds like the tow and dealer experience were outstanding.
Compare that to others not so fortunate experience:
- DI fails on a road trip in middle of nowhere
- DI fails in miserable weather
- DI fails on busy interstate, potential dangerous to safety of vehicle occupants, often our family members
- DI fails out of warranty, owner pays excessive dealer cost + tow
- I could continue, but this will do for now
Might be nice to start a thread, "where were you when your DI s**t the bed."
I think the cost to do a complete redesign for the DI plus engine mgmt system would be prohibitively large for a company attempting to regain sound financial legs, plus really, really, really bad press.Unfortunate for all concerned. This thing is still listed as one of saab's achievements on their web page.
I also think that the new version of the DI changes little more than enhancing the ability to positively identify when a DI has failed or is beginning to fail. This in the interest of reducing warranty cost when replaced on the basis of ill repute.
