Agree about the safety. I specifically asked at the Aero Academy about the use of real aluminum for the dash. I was told that the designers tried but it got nixed by the safety engineers. Could cut you to shreds in a crash. Traditionally Saab decision making has been made by engineers, not business executives. Safety has always been the priority. I hope things stay this way too. I would like to see higher build quality and the common problems dialed out.
Audi interiors look and feel nice but are not that expensive or luxurious in reality. There are a lot of tricks used such as surface textures. Saab has a very plain, but functional interior. Understated luxury would be a good description. Audi is too red with endless buttons, some in odd locations. I think the Saab interior gets less dated and looks better years down the road. The Saab interior is so simple that there isn’t much they could do to improve the quality.
As for the turn signal stalks. I agree that they may be somewhat flimsy for safety reasons. However, the injection molding is fairly poor. You can clearly see and feel the weld lines. This is not good enough for any vehicle let alone one in this price range.
