<<The fact that you observe a "whistle" causes
me to suspect a leak. While monitoring the pulse ratio either plug or clamp all of those little hoses off the intake manifold and see if it deviates. Remember that all of those connections and hoses see both negative and positive pressure. They could be fine when under a vacuum but leak under boost. The check valve on the vacuum canister is a prime canidate, so is the charcoal canister check valve. In my case the
vacuum canister checkvalve, charcoal canister and over pressurization
switch under the dash all leaked.>>
It's a very curious whistle in that I can't seem to find exactly where it comes from. And it's more like a whooo whooo owl like sound. It's not constant, nor is it predictable, say after reving. I've stuck my ear all over the engine to no avail. It's a generalized rear of motor sound. One possibility I've thought of is one of the vacuum hoses perhaps has something in it to create that sound. Similar to how sound is made from a flute - in this case air passing over, around, thru something, perhaps an obstruction, a flap or something. A year ago I replaced the smaller valve cover to inlet vacuum hose on my 900 n/a because it had lost it's rigidity and would pinch shut at high vacuum, creating a high pitched tone, as if from a saxaphone. If I can't isolate one of the components as the source, I'll replace all the hoses.
Thanks for the tip regarding a water flush, and the dwell meter info. Your responses have all been saved and printed.
