Gotta agree here... There is nothing wrong with selling custom items, and there is nothing wrong with taking 7 weeks or 7 years to deliver. But communicating with the customer is important (if not required by law!) and setting false expectations, regardless of how great your product is, is simply wrong. If there is a problem with the supply, let everyone know. If you can't make delivery dates, let everyone know. But not responding to email is wrong and, likely, criminal.

I've been there. I'm still there... Trying to get those white-faced gauges going. You know why I haven't? Because I am unsure I will be able to live up to my end of the deal. Until I've got my supply issue fully resolved and I know I can make people happy, I am not taking anyone's money or even taking their information!

It all seems pretty basic to me.... If you're going to run a business, do it right. If you're not running a business then let people know. But don't mislead people or you'll get comments like these made. I am sure Ian has no malicious intent in his comments - he feels betrayed and misled and he's letting people know. Now, if he's making things up that's one thing - but it sounds to me like he's on the up and up. What can I say? You fix this by getting the guy his shifter boot and likely revising your webpage to reflect what's been said above to avoid having this happen in the future.
