1986 900S 16V non-turbo
So i replaced the spark plugs and wires today (distributor and rotor were replaced at a repair shop after a no start situation), and low and behold the car started again!! But i'm no mechanic, so of course i have problems:
1) My high idle situation has gotten worse, and i know i need to make idle and timing adjustments after the above replacements. However, before i can do the timing i must make sure the idle is correct, so i begin to follow the Bentley manual, but when i get to the throttle screw (the vertical one that determines how far back the cable will go in the relaxed position), it won't budge. It doesn't even really look like a screw, and it looks like a flat head screwdriver would just split the top right off, so i'm nervous about forcing it. Any suggestion for alternatives to get this screw to move, or am i looking in the wrong place to begin with?
2) I look for the area to adjust the timing, but i can't find them. I do see the top of a gear in front of the clutch, but no "0" marking in front of it like it shows in the manual. Can anybody clue me in as to where i should look.
3) I'm thinking maybe the high idle has to do with the O2 sensor, as i recently had my catalytic converter replaced (so maybe the mechanic didn't hook up the O2 sensor, as it now has to be "patched" in once the original cat is removed?), and the car idles fine at start-up but gets high once the car has been driven a short distance. But i look on the right front fender and there is no O2 tester there, like it says there should be in the Bentley manual. Did they move in this O2 tester in different model years? In the past week i've cleaned out my AIC Valve and today cleaned the throttle valve, so i can now eliminte both of those as causes.
Please help however you can with the above problems/situations.
Thanks (from a new DIYer)
