Congrats on the first DIY steps. Pretty soon you will be swapping engines ;)
First off, you probably shouldnt mess with that idle screw. I did that once on mine and it did fix the idle from stalling out, but basically you shouldnt ever really have to change that. There must be a problem somewhere else in the system that is messing with the idle.
Secondly, the timing mark can be hard to see because the writing you are looking for (its like an engraving) is so shallow that any surface rust or dirt that has developed on the flywheel is going to make it hard to read, if not impossible. What you want to do is rotate the flywheel with a Big Screwdriver, like those huge ones you can never find any use for. Make sure its in neutral. If you have a manual transmission, you can put it in gear and slowly push the car to get the flywheel to turn. RIght before the Zero mark, there is a little nub sticking up. You cant miss it. Then after that if you cant see/read the writing, get your screwdriver and start scraping away all the rust on there. Then you should see some writing, then get some white out and mark the 12 degree mark (I think that is the right setting) and then do the rest which you probably know how to.
As for the oxygen sensor, I'm not sure about the tester thing. Ive never heard of that. But if you do have to eventually take it out to replace it, you should know that there is a special socket you can get for your wrench that makes it so you dont have to cut the wire to fit the socket it. Its like 4 or 5 bucks, no big deal. Especially useful when putting the new one in, any auto parts store will have it since its not Saab specific. Good luck getting the old one out though, they are usually VERY VERY hard to get out, but easier if the manifold is warm!
Good luck!
