It's a long sordid history. Started as a fuel pump job and to replace the return line check valve. Unknowningly, I purchased a supply line check valve (was told this is the superceded part). Light bulb never came on and I replaced the return valve with it. Bad idea. Blew my fpr - in the parking lot of the dealer when I went to inquire about the older oem setup. Had to bite it and have them undo my mistake and they set it all back up with the oem orientation. Somehow they had a proper old style return valve and an open supply valve. So that's how I got it, but I was re-reading the TSB's and saw the notice (regarding long cranking) to replace the open oem supply fitting with the new supply check valve. There was no mention of removing the original return valve in the TSB so I wondered if they just left it and had 2 check valves.
Your set up is what I tried to gain. Dealer put it back to oem. I dunno how my newer Walbro pump fits into things. It must have an internal check valve - remember my description of clamping the return line to test it's c.v.. Pressure built and popped supply open elbow off.
I'm a little gun shy about cutting the fuel lines up again...
Works fine, but just longer cranking. The Trent rrfpr was my pressure loss/hard start culprit. What you mentioned about your system dropping to atmospheric pressure at overnight rest was the fact I mainly needed.
I'm sure my history of posts on this reads like a convoluted story.
