Other than my 82 900T, I have driven many different make and model manual cars and trucks over the years. I can't recall any other car or truck that had the reverse gear crunch I experience with my 900. I also had a previous 82 n/a 900 that had a curious little 5th gear crunch at high speeds. For a time I drove a 6 cyl Ford 250 with an indestructible 3 speed tranny. You couldn't find a problem with it if you tried, no matter the circumstances or load. Since it was a work truck owned by the company, none of us drivers were concerned with paying the maintenance costs from use and abuse. But no matter the driver or the intentional abuse, it would shift effortlessly between all gears. To be more specific, if you've ever had to rock your car or truck out of a snow or mud hole (first to reverse to first to reverse... quickly), you know the abuse a tranny can take. That truck could take it. I could never imagine doing so with my 900.
