Crushed shims/loose nut

When I rebuilt my tranny I found that my pinion bearing nut was a few thousandths away from square to the Pinion shaft. I figured that was the major contributing factor to my shims being crushed and broken up (the shims between pinion nut and reverse gear). I'm not sure if other people have noticed this since it seems an odd thing to measure, but Mabye check it on reassembly. Although there's not much you can do to fix it unless you turn the whole assembly on a lathe taking the utmost care to prevent getting anything in your brand new pinion bearings. That's what I've seen. But you probably don't need to sweat it.
