Hi you guys,
BMW? You must be joking. Most of them are eaten out by rust and never too strong after any similar body repair intervention. I had two in the past and after a while there was nothing to stop the body from flexing too much except maybe a built-in racing cage. Forget it if you plan to really "use" the car heavily.
As for the transmission, mine failed after a total of 320,000 km when the main pinion bearing desintegrated and did a whole lot of damage to the interior. Got a second hand one from the junk yard and the car is still running strong as usual. I didn't have where to recondition it as spares are really hard to find in this part of the world and I didn't have a place where to do it, so...
