I used a stethiscope and determinded that the timeing chain sounds smooth. It does have 13.5mm used up (yes I will replace it when I do this engine work). But I did determine that the noise is coming from the 4th piston possiably the intake... I have no experence with Saab engine work (I have done trannys, 9000 engine work... but I know nothing about valves) How do I determine what is wrong (all or just some of the followers, valves or if they are okay - etc) Also is this a job I should attempt? or is this something that is best left for a machiene shop? (I have no special saab tools). I am the type that learns from trial and error (too much error and not enough trial it seems like). I feel very comfortable doing stuff this way. But all the springs and stuff in valves looks dificult...
Any ideas & help is apriciated.
I have tried some Marvels Mystery oil (1/2 quart directly onto the cam followers - no change). At this point, I plan on trying the bleeding proceedure (from bently) as well as put 1 or 2 quarts into the engine & fuel. I am ready to sink money into this if it is time to - I am guessing I just need to pull the head and take to a reliable machiene shop to fix?? Is this a good idea? Is there something more I should try first?
Thanks
Adam
