Without the check valve, you'd just be 'wasting' boost by bleeding it into the crankcase. I accept that this air would just recycle back out the big line and into the turbo inlet (whether it significantly increases crankcase pressure or not), but why let it? The check valve prevents this flow.
I suspect that the turbo inlet duct is nearly at ambient pressure at idle (with pressure dropping further with increasing flow), as the only upstream 'restrictions' are the AMM and the air filter (and the head losses associated with the ducting), but if they did it right, these should be fairly low.
