I just got back from a local "sound automotive" shop. Rumor has it he does good work, reputable, been there for 30 years.

I'm a novice.

I just know that I want the system sound MUCH better than the stock audio does now.

So here's his suggestion:

Alpine receiver. (about $250 18 watts rms. not top of their line. he actually talked me out of their more expensive model with the glide tuner)

Ipod adaptor ($150 installed. my choice)

New 4 inch Boston acoustic in front.
New 4x somthing but he was going to see if a 6x9 would fit in the back. it did seem sound a bit better) $288 installed

Alpine 4 channel amplifier (maybe. about $400 installed. not sure i need this but it did seem to make a good difference in sound)

Wow. Thats a lot of money. over $1,000 total. If I go ahead I'll do it in pieces.

Overall does this sound like a reasonable way to go? Is this the kind of money that is spent on audio?

Any help is great.
