I'm not sure either. I'm real tempted to remove it on my convertible though since it's not used in the winter.
The possibility of the throttle getting stuck from icing is too much risk for Saab as a company to deal with. Someone would die inevitably if it were possible for the throttle to ice up. With their aero background, carb icing has been a real risk with airplanes as they descend through damp layers of air to land.
Basically, pressure drops after the throttle body restriction, and with pressure drop, you have the possibility of both gas/liquid separation, and cooling of the gas. This creates the possibility of ice to form.
I would guess it's pretty unlikely. If I were driving and my throttle stuck, (it has actually, the throttle cable had a tight spot), I would take it out of gear and brake. What would happen on a M3 or other mutliple throttle body car? Would a cylinder get massively leaned out compared to the others?
