Backman, I don't believe you've ever posted just why you need a new tranny. If it doesn't have any broken teeth and clunking, and isn't refusing to stay in a gear, whatever it is could be more minor than you think. Or could be something you could minimize and tolerate and that will hold off for a long time.
Sounds to me like you need a break and a chance to drive this car and earn back some of what it cost you, in the form of miles of driving.
Check the transmission oil level and if it's down top up with 10W30 motor oil. If that improves things, try it for a while. Or change out its oil and try fresh, or one of the proprietary oils recommended by some - - Honda's manual transmission oil ("MTF"), or the Redline MTF.
If it's leaking at the seals where the drivers enter the case, buy and install new seals there.
And most important, search on here and do the fixes for adjustment of the shifter, checking also the rubber section of the shift shaft that breaks up, and verify that motor mounts seem intact.
Also, how is your clutch hydraulic system? If it has any air in the lines it won't release the clutch all the way which will make all kinds of heck in shifting and might make you think it's a bad tranny.
You might have paid a little to a lot too much for the car, but these are astonishingly strong and forgiving machines that can run many miles with a few problems.
Rust can indeed kill Saabs, but if the garage will sticker it if a small patch gets fixed, the car may be able to run for years and years with a pretty good level of rust advancing before it gets so bad it's not stickerable or safe.
Good luck on things. Post why you think it needs a new tranny.
