RayF,

Thanks for your thoughts man! I suspect pinion bearing is going bad... from other posts (under Todd or backman). My service garage also had it up and listened to it and said the whine is coming from somewhere in the tranny or differential. I had considered driving it till it breaks... because it shifts beautifully and doesnt grind, clunk, pop out of gear etc. I had been advised to get it rebuilt now while the unit is still worth something... once it blows it becomes even more cost prohibitive. My level of suspicion is high enough because it all fits that its the tranny (bearing like whine as if wind was blowing over an empty bottle in 4th and 5th gear especially when under acceleration load and absent when coasting)... that I figured I wasnt going to get out of it the added cost that I would face if I drove it till it crapped out all together. Im having my service garage drain the fluid and refill it to see if that helps. I definitely have some oil collection in the skid plate... but that is consistent with my buddies so I wasnt too surprised. Course... oil that is supposed to be in the tranny or engine ending up on the ground is certainly a problem worth fixing and may mean a low fluid level. The car is so new to me and went to inspection so quickly I didnt have much of a chance to do work on it myself yet. Im going to get it back after it gets out of inspection repack the inner and outer joints on the drive axel and see what I have. Im going to take it to a guy locally who has extensive history with these saabs and let him take a listen. I dont know... Id like to drive it... but feel like every moment in it I would just be waiting for that horrible lockup or blow out and fretting instead of enjoying it! I do like it alot... and would like to be able to enjoy it with less hesitation! Still working through it! Again... all the help makes it bearable! Id be at a total loss without all the good advice I get from all you guys and gals! Thanks Ray!

Todd
